UPDATE: We have launched a GoFundMe Page requesting donations so we can keep up with increasing demand for our Community Soup To-Go Program. Please help us spread the word and share our GoFundMe Page
Dear Friends & Family,
Last week, we announced the difficult decision to postpone all events at NOOR through May 15, 2020 in response to the increasing risk of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Until we receive orders from the LA County Health Officer that we can re-open once again and begin celebrating events, NOOR’s kitchen will be repurposed into a community kitchen to provide nutrient-dense, immune-boosting soups to the community and to our out-of-work employees at no cost.
It has become abundantly clear that we are in the midst of a major global emergency and each of us needs to take every precaution to stay home as much as possible. However, we feel it is our duty to use our resources to help provide the community with nourishment. With a commercial kitchen, talented chefs and access to a food supply chain, sitting on the sidelines and waiting for this crisis to end is not an option for us. Soup is a transformative food you can actually feel as it sustains you and provides an easy way to eat nutrition.
At a time when social distancing and personal hand hygiene are the primary recommendations coming from health officials, our employees will be focused on providing the community with nutritious soups containing whole food, plant-based ingredients to strengthen our collective immune system. Our kitchen staff will be provided with N95 face safety masks along with disposable safety gloves. In addition, our kitchen has been equipped with a HEPA Air Purifier system using medical grade filtration.
Our soup will be served refrigerated and packaged in 32oz containers with pre-wrapped utensils. Beginning this Friday, March 27, 2020, soups will be available for pick-up in front of NOOR’s Ella Ballroom each Friday between 3:00pm-5:00pm. We will continue to provide this service to the community until we have flattened the curve and can all safely return to work.
We look forward to feeding our community and celebrating events again with you soon. From our table to yours.
Thank you and be safe.
